On September 15, 2018, at 11 a.m., the Sanshui District
Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow typhoon warning and activated a level
three emergency response to meteorological disasters (typhoon). Concurrently,
the group issued an "Urgent Notice on Doing a Good Job in Responding to
the Super Typhoon 'Mangkhut'". The 22nd super typhoon "Mangkhut"
had maximum winds of over level 17 near its center, making it the strongest
typhoon in the northwest Pacific and the South China Sea that year. The impact
of the super typhoon "Mangkhut" coincided with the weekend, and the
management team of Foshan Standard Company paid great attention and responded
swiftly. An emergency work group was established with Manager Tan Zhijian as
the leader and Deputy Manager Fu Dewen as the deputy leader. A call for
disaster prevention and relief volunteers was posted in the office WeChat
group, which was immediately responded to positively by 22 employees living in
or near the company, including Fu Xiaoli, Liu Chuanbin, Liu Yuan, and Liang
Zhengpeng, and they quickly initiated typhoon prevention work.
Drawing on the company's previous experience in disaster
prevention and relief, the volunteer group took targeted actions in areas prone
to disaster: First, the central warehouse of the chemical drug workshop was
prone to water ingress, so raw and auxiliary materials stored in the warehouse
were moved to higher ground, and refrigerators storing spherical worm species
were raised; Second, the side door of the chemical drug workshop was prone to
water ingress, so sandbags were moved to block the door and drainage equipment
was prepared in advance; Third, exhaust windows were sealed to prevent
rainwater from entering; Fourth, construction units of ongoing projects were
notified to urgently carry out safety inspections and reinforcement of cranes
and fences. In addition, the company established a temporary disaster
prevention and relief WeChat group for convenient command of typhoon prevention
and disaster relief work, arranged volunteers for duty, and reported disaster
information in a timely manner. While taking preventive measures, the company
issued precautions against typhoons to all employees, strengthened safety
education, and enhanced awareness of prevention.
Although Typhoon "Mangkhut" was powerful, due to Standard
Company's rapid response and appropriate handling measures, there were no
casualties or property losses after the typhoon.
